I always feel like I've come home when I can work with vim and a command line, no matter what the operating system is. The humble cmd.exe has improved somewhat; you can now have more than 80 columns, the copy/paste shortcuts are finally sane, and there is mouse support. I'm still waiting for tabs and proper rendering of underlined text. I hear that cmd.exe in the Insider build of Windows 10 has tabs, but apparently it's not coming to the next official release.

Cooking 350-calorie meals feels like writing assembly code for a microcontroller, because you've got to do a lot with little, and there's no space for including anything pre-made. I just made 4 burritos using lefse (traditional Norwegian soft flatbread), a few spoons of ground beef, unsweetened corn, salsa and jalapeños. Lefser because they're far less calorie-dense than tortillas.

It's that time of year again. The leg itch from last fall/winter is back. I'm not sure what causes it, but I'm suspecting drier air. I've been mostly indoors for about a week now, so I don't think cold air is triggering it. I tried moisturiser and eczema ointment last year, but that didn't help at all.

Been extremely deeply into the nitty gritty details of Mikrotik routers for the past few days. For this job I'm doing, I'll need actual routing between multiple segments.

I suspect that I'm only confused because pop science explanations of quantum physics don't tend to explain what an "observation" is in terms of quantum physics. I suspect the term is actually synonymous with "interaction". It's not like the diffraction pattern comes back if you turn your back to the experiment.

They talk about quantum outcomes changing when "merely observing" particles, but again, there's no such thing as "observing" particles in the quantum world in the way we observe objects in the macro world. Every "observation" must be an interaction. We can only see objects when they emit photons. A photon can't emit anything, so how do you sense that it's there without touching it?

When they talk of "observing" which slit a photon passes through in the double-slit experiment, what exactly does that mean? I mean, if you think about it, you can't really "observe" anything unless you're interacting with (some part) of it. You can't sense the presence of anything unless there are particle interactions of some kind, so you'd need to bump your photon into something to detect that it's there, and that's going to change it subtly... and that doesn't sound strange to me at all.

Ugh, for some stupid reason, RouterOS is now detecting my VirtualBox network interfaces in the wrong order. Actually, when I boot the image and print the interfaces, it doesn't show anything but ether0 for the first few seconds. The other two interfaces only come online afterwards. The first interface to come online is host-only and so is the other one among the two that come online late. The third interface is a bridge. There's no rhyme or reason to it.

Every erythritol product I've tried has been great, because it has the mouthfeel and aroma of real sugar. It seems to work great when they pair it with stevia to get it up to full table sugar sweetness.

My only question: Why don't they make sugar-free chocolate with this sugar alcohol instead of the others? I know they give you diarrhoea when consumed in large amounts, but in my case, that's fine, since I usually don't eat much chocolate at a time.

Artificial table sugar based on erythritol and stevia is a miracle of modern science. It has zero calories, zero effect on blood glucose, and all the ingredients can be found in nature.

@Glectonzo I'm not looking for positions at all. It would be easy for me to get a regular job, but I hate them too much to voluntarily apply for them. I'm looking for gigs. Freelance work. That's what consultants/contractors do.

@Glectonzo I'm in the Oslo area. I work with pretty much anything with a circuit board in it. I can make software, fix computers, set up networks for home and business, rig audio for events, hook up a home cinema, fix broken circuits, make new circuits, wire up a recording studio, produce short films, take professional portraits...
