My landlord wants to hire me for some work, and he wants me to quote a price, but when I once did quote a price before, he didn't like it. I know he's not poor. He's on vacation in the United States right now and that's not cheap. He also has a nice house and that's not cheap either. How do you get a stingy person to part with his money gladly?

@Ricardus I've managed to create other circuits that do ramp up from 0V but have a weird spike of oscillation somewhere in the middle of the ramp.

If somebody knows of an IC that will take, say, a 5V single-sided supply, and spit out the same supply plus a 2.5V rail, and allow me to ramp both up gradually for 100 milliseconds or so, without a ton of external circuitry, please provide a model number or a datasheet.

You'd think that someone could make a simple IC that does it. Attach a capacitor or RC circuit to a pin to control the ramp-up speed, and be done with it...

I'm still fighting uphill with transistors, be it BJTs or FETs. They never do what I expect them to. My attempts at making a simple circuit that smoothly ramps up a supply voltage in something like 100 milliseconds have so far been a failure. N-channel MOSFETs that ramp up the ground current are the closest I've gotten, but I want it to be P-channel MOSFET on the positive rail, since switching out the ground gives you weird measurements.

Going to McDonald's makes you feel sooo classy and thin.

The tertiary sector seems to be the most bullshitty one. It's all about charging high fees in return for "service" (kissing ass). It's the same story whether you work in the legal, IT, media, financial, health or hospitality sector.

@faire I'm in a tough spot at the moment and I've been in a tough spot many times before, and I'm getting tired of having to cobble together a living out of random parts all the time. It's stressful and feels pointless. Having a nine-to-five job also feels stressful and pointless for me. I hate doing anything that makes me a decent living, it seems, and I start questioning what the struggle is for, really...

He's been working on React code for several weeks, but hasn't figured out what a property is yet...

@dredmorbius I'm not so much considering realistic options at the moment. I'm mainly just stating my honest feelings. I wouldn't want to live in a cabin in the woods either, just to make that clear. It's more that I don't want any of the options presented to me. It's like choosing between plague and cholera.

As far as I can tell, I have only two primary motivators: Fear and boredom.

Fear of poverty makes me find work. Fear of disease makes me take care of my health. Fear of rejection makes me polite.

Boredom makes me read. Boredom makes me create. Boredom makes me talk to people.

The meaning of my life is thus... a series of events? And in these events, I'm supposed to find meaning? I can't find it if there is one. Things just are, aren't they? Life goes on until it doesn't. How is this supposed to motivate me into doing anything?

Having to perform some kind of labour to stay alive is timeless, of course. Even a wild animal has to hunt or forage for food.

The problem is that I'm not quite seeing the point. I can exist in a sort of bubble where I pretend that whatever goal I set for myself at a given moment is the point, but whenever I try to think about it, and question why I have the goal, nothing turns up.

Every story has an anchor. My story doesn't. Therefore, it isn't a story. It's just a series of events.
