@ajroach42 NYPL are likely to be the best specific source for you to contact regarding whether or not any such database exists, and/or if there's any work toward creating one.

Sean Raymond specifically seems to be the lead person, see:
    https://www.nypl.org/blog/2019/05/31/us-copyright-history-1923-1964

I don't have contact information for him, though you're welcome to dig for that.

Twitter inactive accounts purge: what archival tools exist for preserving public tweets?

A friend asks elsewhere if I know of tools or archives for preserving public Tweets from inactive accounts, specifically of users who've died and whose Twitter accounts will likely be purged in coming days....

With Twitter purging inactive user accounts -- including potentially numerous notable dead former users -- preservation and archival are again concerns.

There are serveral extant public archives:

    http://www.archive.org/details/2011-05-calufa-twitter-sql (2011 -- 90 million user scrape)

Dear #MastoMind: Is there any literature on decisionmaking in low-information, high-consequence circumstances out there?

Theory *and* examples / instances of social / cultural / historical practices would be of interest.

Dear #MastoMind: Good, small, performant, reasonably-priced Linux desktop suggestions?

Principle uses: browsing, coding, data analysis, some audio/video bits. No gaming.

Would like to be reasonably future-proofed.

Looking at Intel's NUC units, something small *and quiet* would be nice. Intel CPUs themselves not so much (Spectre/Meltdown).

    Large and multi-display capable.

I vastly prefer to avoid Nvidia.

I'm seriously conflicted over the death of David Koch.

Should I dance on his grave?

Or would it be better to shit all over it then torch it with a radioactive flamethrower?

    Values, Reason, Epiricism, and Identity

Rather than hijack (and, I'm realising, necropost) a 2018 thread any further (https://cybre.space/@SuricrasiaOnline/101190484337601694), I thought I'd run with a concept I'd come up in an earlier reply.

Suircrasia Online rightly notes that self-labled rationalists should consider their motivations and methods if what they're saying is paining others. And at least learn some of the tools of their self-proclaimed trade: formal logic.

fedichive.tk are 1) archiving all Mastodon content, 2) offering search as a service 3) are refusing to remove content at the request of that content's author, and 4) are threatening retaliatory actions as a consequence of receiving such requests.

I'm requesting the instance be blocked and defederated by mastodon.cloud, and that blocking and defederation be requested of all other Mastodon instances through which content archives might be leaked incidentally.

    Adblocking: How About Nah?

...adversarial interoperability is also a way for the public to assert its rights and push back against unfair practices. Take-it-or-leave it deals are one thing when the market is competitive and you can shop around for someone with better terms of service, but in highly concentrated markets where everyone has the same rotten deal on offer, adversarial interoperability lets users make a counteroffer: "How about nah?"

"Delete and rewrite" lately bacame the feature I use the most in Mastodon.

    Not sure what that means.

(and of course I had a typo in this toot so I needed to use it here too... sigh)

A toot's got me wondering about the nature of consent in a specific way; I won't ever have an Alexa or anything like it, and maybe you won't either; but other people will.

And now I'm thinking, if you have one of these lumps of spyware in your home, should you be *required* to offer a formal warning to any visitors? I think so; you're required to place CCTV warnings if you run CCTV, and if anything systems like Alexa are more invasive, not less.

The data from a CCTV system might never leave the premises; the data from these "assistants" goes **directly** to servers outside either your *or* your host's control, where your voice may be datamined for any damned purpose the server owners choose.

Don't feel bad about saying "I don't wanna come over, you've got an Alexa running." It's not paranoia to be creeped out by AIs (or persons) unknown listening to your private conversations. It's *normal*. You don't *need* anything to "hide" for you desire not to *share* to be valid.

@Ephaemera Look at what happened to Google Glass and Glassholes.

We need a sick burn for Spy Speakers, like "Glassholes" was.

Personally I think Robert Scoble singlehandedly killed Glass.
