github.com/uazo/cromite says "**** Work in progess **** // Cromite (a Bromite fork)".

There is a release v115.0.5790.136[0] from this week and the E Foundation are commenting and saying their CI (gitlab.e.foundation) can build it in 25 minutes, whereas Cromite's CI (Github Actions) takes over 13 hours. They're offering mirroring. Sounds like #cromite has a promising future.

There are basically two contributors. csagan5 is the maintainer and then there's uazo.

Reading between the lines it seems csagan5 is having life interfering with Bromite. They made a draft PR in January for v109, surfaced in May to say they'd update it to some later version and then went below the radar again.[0]

uazo has been releasing up-to-date test builds at github.com/uazo/bromite-buildt… where the latest is v115 and says "Please note: this is the last release, the next one will be in github.com/uazo/cromite"[1]

After almost four decades of speaking and listening to English, mostly American, I still have trouble distinguishing "can" and "can't", especially when sung.

I considered it. In Swedish I would have done it without a second thought. In English I'm unsure if that would have drawn a bunch of noisy comments distracting from the meme, so I took the safe route.

I may do it differently next time, as your response indicates that using the genderless word might be more accepted and less "activist" than I thought.

I saw a claim that the popular "Rosie the Riveter" poster is:

1) Incorrectly called by that name
2) Originally a union-busting poster

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Can_D… confirms that Rosie the Riveter was a song originally fully decoupled from the poster. The association between the two came decades later.

While not directly and exactly union-busting, it was part of a series of posters intended to inspire workers to keep calm and keep working for Westinghouse and for the war. It wasn't a symbol for women power, merely an acknowledgement that women were there too.

All that said, of course these days it can mean whatever people want it to, and it's clear that a mind of today often first sees it as a feminist empowering image.
