The power of big media comes down to their control over attention. Basically, it's all really an algorithm. Newspapers, broadcast, cable, social media silos, even streaming services...other people want to control what comes next. The more that people move to the #fediverse and the more that we use the #fediverse in place of their algorithms, the more freedom we have. I want it everywhere yesterday.

To those who want to preemptively ban people from social networks based on their beliefs/associations, google Megan Phelps. Engagement with non-bigots etc on Twitter changed her, and removed a warrior from the side of the bad guys. That's so much less pain she'll now ever cause the same people you want to protect. But yes, many people had to endure her crap to open the door to this change. Do more people change by being shunned than conversation? Do bigots win arguments? Are they persuasive?

It's still way too fucking early to be talking about the next presidential election. Wait till 2020 actually starts. That will still give you over six months till the first party convention. Please stop.

@temporaryDouchebag @Droopinheimer @adam my Dem state representative is speaking out against the longtime Dem party boss & speaker of the House (very rarely done), and the longtime radio show host who had her on his progressive radio station was fired the next day. Big time politicos are expressing support for him but they all refuse to ask the obvious question of why.

Just finished the short book #KindlyInquisitors. It is fantastic. It was written by @jon_rauch in 1992, but is a perfect response to the regressive left etc. He should be considered the godfather of the #IDW. I plan to read it many more times and quote from it ad nauseum. Sorry.

Taking climate change seriously means replacing coal and natural gas with nuclear (and electric cars) now, and then transitioning to renewables eventually. But I know that doesn't fit your narrative.

@sirphenom people need community and political worldview is a big part of the shared cultural perspective that we need to feel comfortable around others. the increasing rigidness of political tribalism, at the same time that the internet makes seeing the hypocrisy and propaganda so much easier, is tearing at our social fabric. NA seems to have accidentally created a quasi community of outsiders with the donation segments and giving us a shared conversation.
