@riga Some context — I’ve been in a pretty bad accident before, and since then I’ve had the feeling that life is precarious.

On one hand I think this impatience is a good antidote to any tendencies to become complacent/ sleepwalk through life, but on the other hand the bitterness it's generating is not helping me.

Anyone have anything on dealing with crushing impatience -- in particular the feeling that life is short and that it's a waste to spend it on things you don't care about? I think I'm getting really bitter and resentful because I feel like the 'boring' commitments in my life are getting in the way of achieving my snowflakey goals quickly enough.

It makes me uncomfortable how people have adopted corporate language when talking about themselves on the internet. You are not a corporation or a persona. You are a whole person.

You don't have a "brand" – you have passions and interests. You don't "create content" – you share thoughts, words, ideas, knowledge, and a whole galaxy of other things.

There are plenty of people out there who want to categorise you and put you in a box. Don't help them to do this.

You're so much more than that. 💚

@Elmkast Speaking as an econ major, I’m sad to report that imho the best reason to learn economics is to learn how its assumptions and ideal scenarios don’t match up with observed reality.

Also, In climate where we’re told to leave the running of things to the experts, there’s also a certain brutal clarity of vision in asking things like “my parent’s generation had houses at my age, why don’t we have houses?”. Naive, concrete questions can cut through layers of complex ideological obfuscation.

We were definitely under the impression that life was a "respectable effort in --> predictable acceptable outcome out" kinda situation. Weirdly it was the 2012 student strikes and the police beating the shit out of everyone and arresting them by the busloads that started to cure me of that illusion.

@strangeattractor Yeah, of course. I realize there's a huge diversity of attitudes, so this isn't shade at All Gamers. I was just struck to see that some of the mainstream outlooks seemed to have changed.

I guess that’s maybe a bad example, because the park (and the stream) was ‘designed’, but I stand by the basic point!

@riga This is my conclusion after going walking today on Mont Royale and getting excited like a little child about the way a half frozen stream flowed through and beneath the ice.

After thousands of years of human existence, I still don’t think human aesthetics have caught up with nature.
