"Next to death, being stripped from your home, family, and community is the worst fate that can be inflicted on a human, as many societies practicing banishment have recognized. It’s time to rein in the greatest threat we face: an unaccountable strike force executing a campaign of ethnic cleansing."
#Vero is yet another capitalist silo that seeks to monetize user-generated content without paying the users who generate the content. But we're supposed to have warm fuzzies about it because they'll charge a subscription fee to every user after the first million suckers instead of pushing ads?
@aral Corporations don't need a code of ethics. They need democratic governments holding guns to their heads, ready to shut them down at the first sign of malfeasance.
Imagine if every American got their own #Unix shell account from the Post Office, and young students looked forward to the day in third grade when the local neighborhood sysadmin would come in and teach them the basics.
Something occurred to me while I was driving home from work last night, something that’s always bugged me about Christianity that is just one of the many reasons I don’t believe in Christianity (or any other religion): Why is Judas Iscariot vilified? Should he not be numbered among the first and greatest of saints? It doesn’t make sense.
* Prefer hourly jobs over salaried positions. * When getting paid hourly, insist on time and a half for overtime. If you work more than 40 hours a week, you should be paid extra. If your boss refuses, immediately leave/disconnect and do not return until the following Monday. * Nobody is doing you a favor by hiring you. They are buying your time and effort and trying to pay you as little as possible. Don't let them fool or gaslight you.

My #Starbreaker novels - WITHOUT BLOODSHED and SILENT CLARION - are on sale NOW for #Christmas. You can get the #Kindle editions for $0.99 and $1.99 respectively.
What if the way we go about hiring workers is inherently discriminatory because it places workers in the position of having to "earn" a job instead of forcing businesses to prove that they deserve to have people work for them?
The idea behind salaried employment is that I'm supposed to put in the time needed to get the job done.
If it takes more than 40 hours a week, I'm supposed to suck it up and deal with it.
But if I finish my work in less than 40 hours, or management doesn't give me 40 hours of work in a given week, I'm stuck sitting in the fucking office with fuck-all to do. But I still need to look busy to justify my place in the company payroll.
programming expectation: I'm going to solve all the world's problems with code.
programming reality: I'm going to solve rich white people's problems with code, while collecting a salary that's a mere fraction of the value my work supposedly creates.
