@Pasty @karen Then ironically enough, I broke it almost instantly.

@ivesen @_HellPie Gnome was my DE of choice as long as I was on a systemd distro. I don't like KDE though, but that's a personal thing

@_HellPie @ivesen I like gnome. But it depends on systemd now unless you use ghetto patches, and I don't have no systemd.
Unity is dead now, so it's too late for that. Ubuntu is moving back to Gnome

@ivesen oh right. i'm too lazy to put effort into compiling it atm. got other things to do

@ivesen xbps-src is neat when it works. do the current templates with without edits? (other than version number of cource)

@angristan Regardless it's early. Even if you get it to work it's probably fairly junk. I'm just happy to know that Mate at least hit the starting line

@Technowix as if i'm smart/dedicated enough for that

@angristan lmao then it probably won't work unless your hypervisor lets you fake display data. probably possible somehow, but more hassle than it's worth

@angristan It needs EDID data to report that the screen is, say 14", then it can deduce that it's probably HiDPI if it's also 1800p

@angristan also your display in your screenshot doesn't report its screen size. or maybe it does, but whatever is under the hood, manjaro doesn't seem to have the packages needed to detect it. All these detection things work by comparing resolution to the size which the screen supports. If the screen does not report any physical size it typically gives up

@angristan news posts always find the smallest things to brag about. that probably just means it can detect a macbook display by metadata or some pointless shit. even if it was there i wouldn't trust anything to handle my displays dynamically like that

@angristan e.g you might have to use gsettings from the terminal or something similar which was how it was with gnome in the past

@angristan Probably heavily broken or a pain in the ass to enable like basically anything non-gnome. but if it there's we at least have a start

@ivesen I think Mate is pretty good. I'm a weird person though

@Technowix Sadly no. Void repos are still on 1.18. And Mate is too huge of a thing for me to try and manually install all the components. Especially since I use musl so I'd have to compile them all myself

Mate 1.20 released a little over two weeks ago and nobody told me about this
