Anyone have any connections with fansub or any translation communities?

Me and my friend want to start a #platformcoop to help people do and fund translations of all sorts, especially subtitles.

Anyone interested in participating in any way let me know.

Below is an article outlaying the idea of the #coop:

A worker owned taxi #coop in Southend has grown from 6 to 70 drivers.

They repaid all their investors and returned £3000 to their members last year. The same year Uber left the area after failing to compete with them.

We need this in every town and city!

So Swiss regulators want to turn the two largest retailers in the country from coops to capitalist companies.

They also question "whether a cooperative structure is appropriate for banking"?

Coop banks were less likely to go bust and lend more to SMEs than other banks. Coop retailers are shown to be better for customers especially under monopoly situations.

WTF is wrong with Swiss regulators?? This is making me more angry than it should... Seriously who the hell are these idiots??

    #coopfact of the day!

If the UK #creditunions continue to grow at this pace, in 30 years majority of British adults will be credit union members.

I'm involved in an app called Wobbly that will help workers to mobilize according to #IWW principles.

The founder @KingMob has himself been a Deliveroo courier, and his experiences sparked the idea for the app.

We seek to make the app into a multistakeholder coop when it's launched.

Everyone is welcome to join our discord group (https://discord.gg/kZaXpu), also feel free to message me.

We're looking for a #graphicdesigner, so please retoot!

    Here's an article about it:

The leader of German Social Democratic Party, Andrea Nahles, commits to support #platformcoops.

"One issue raised by Nahles is why restaurants and food deliverers do not simply start their own platform co-ops to serve customers. Why should they leave this work to tech companies that extract huge fees without cooking a single meal, and who then pay workers less than a fair wage?"

Land value tax is perhaps the most popular tax among economists, left to right. From Joseph Stiglitz (see Henry George Theorem) to Milton Friedman (who called it the least bad tax). It's been a success everywhere it's been implemented, from Singapore to Denmark.

    It's:
    - Progressive
    - Impossible to move offshore or shift to tenants
    - No deadweight losses, no distortions, as taxing land doesn't reduce the amount of land.

I am one of the early users and am deeply involved. I didn't know the founder personally when I joined but now we talk almost every day briefly :D.

Neither of us are tech people, but we would be more than happy to change from #SendGrid to something better. We also plan to change from Google Analytics.

First we would need to collect a list of alternatives and make a poll open to all users to choose which alternative to change to.

Are there some alternatives you would recommend?

    @gc

Hey Gregg, I remember you're interested in 3d printing. Do you (or anyone else) have recommended articles, videos etc. about the possibilities of open source 3d printing?

I don't have a 3 d printer myself so not interested so much doing stuff in practice, just interested about the "scene" of open source 3d printing.

What do you call the #Resonate #Stream2Own payment system?

In Resonate the first time you listen to a song you pay 0.02$. The next time 0.04$. Until the 9th time, you have paid a combined of around 1$, and you can then listen to track as many times as you want with no extra pay.

    Quadranic pricing?
    Exponential pricing?

I made a blogroll on the Wiki. Add your blog or comment/toot me it and I'll add it.

    https://wiki.social.coop/Blogroll

    Added few people who first popped to my mind who I know have a blog ( @ntnsndr , @kusti , @Iwan_Doherty & @richdecibels ).

Anyone can toot me their blog and I'll add them.

The order of the blogs should be changed regularly using lottery, so that the people who happened to pop into my mind first don't get an unfair advantage by being first in the list.

    Idea for social coop:

Have a group of tech, business, legal and academic people interested in platform coops start a blog in Quora and answer questions about start-up models, solutions to the problems of big tech, etc.

No idea how Quora blogs work, seem to allow combining different users answers together. We could combine all our answers about coops in a systematic and categorized Q&A.

Happy to donate 50 $ to this.

I alone know 5 members who've written to Quora, I'm sure there's lot more.

I think the Social Coop About page is good but I was wondering if we could use a bit more welcoming expression in our about page than "You are most welcome to request an account!".

I think something like "Join the discussion now and become a co-owner!" or something like that.

If you have alternative phrasings I would be happy to hear!

WeCollective, a user-owned coop replacement for Reddit with polling tools and better categorization features is having a vote on a new feature:

"In poll discussion threads, show as the top comment a comment posted by a person that voted different from you, but that was most upvoted by people who voted like you."

This would reduce echo in the echochamber.

    Vote here: https://www.weco.io/b/root/p/leosammallahti-1511453981147/vote

Everyone can register for free and everyone has 1 vote on decisions. Oh yeah, we just turned opensource!
