it's time for my favourite game, Windows or Capitalism, where we try to guess whether a statement applies to windows or capitalism

- it's obnoxiously expensive for no reason
- corporate monopolies allow the big companies to stamp out alternatives and present themselves as the only option, driving up prices to ridiculous levels
- you are constantly pressured to spend money. in fact, if you don't have money, you can't participate at all
- advertisements are a fundamental element of the system
- most people who have souls despise it, but remain complacent because "what are the alternatives? this is the way things are"
- the mere mention of the names of alternatives disgusts many people
- the people in charge don't give a shit about you

trick question!! all of these statements apply to windows AND capitalism!!!!!

i love how windows users are just so used to being fucked over by installers constantly that websites have a "watch out for the adware by the way :)" reminders

and this is for directX, software made *by microsoft*. you can't even install microsoft software on your microsoft computer without getting dunked on

coolly, i reply "if windows was compiled with gcc, would that make it GNU?" i interrupt his response with "and work is being made on the kernel to make it more compiler-agnostic. even if you were correct, you won't be for long."

whenever i see someone ask a question about computers that i feel is obvious, rather than saying READ THE MANUAL DO IT YOURSELF or HOW COULD YOU BE THIS UNINTELLIGENT i just explain how to do the thing, thus giving people a good experience with the community instead of making people associate linux users with smug, condescending, self-righteous asses

you might not have known this, but google - the company you use for searching, email, maps, translation, data storage, watching videos, voice assistant tech, backing up your phone, storing photos, finding images, making purchases, making your phone's operating system, advertising, providing webfonts, running website analytics, providing captcha authentication, and browsing the internet - might be tracking you

we couldn't afford to get alexa or google now so we just record our conversations and email them to the government instead
