techbros: yes, but have you considered that if you block entire instances full of Nazis that you are abrogating your users' freedom to choose whether or not they see Nazi posts
It’s funny how the racists came out on the GIMP issue the other day. It’s almost like the venn diagram of the people who want to preserve an ableist slur and racist shitheads is closer to a circle.
As an instance admin, I decided to check out Toot! for iOS. It's $3.99 USD, but after a few hours' use, it is definitely worth it. This is a genuinely pleasant Mastodon experience, and the only feature request I have is the ability to turn off boosts in my home TL. (If that exists already, please point me to it!)
What I see happening with that instance is pretty much a carbon copy of what happens in the greater FOSS community: someone with power is finally publicly revealed to be a bigot, and everyone involved in the project just shrugs and remains ignorant (by choice or by privilege). There’s blowback for a bit and oppressed people are harmed so they leave and/or cut off contact, and the status quo remains unchanged.
Until privileged tech folk stop coddling fash tech folk, nothing will change.
Thinking about blocking fosstodon.org due to their admin’s awful take about “snowflakes”. That shows the kind of discourse they welcome very clearly, and I do not like it.
@CobaltVelvet You need to clear the cache .. it was a known issue with the 2.9.0 upgrade (which, in all fairness, was mentioned in the upgrade instructions)
Security is important to us, so we now require our employees to use a fifth auth factor, which is an interpretive dance of your choosing, to be changed every two months. #infosec#twofactorauth
