You know, we all had a lot of fun filming the hit blockbuster, "Titanic", and we hope you had as much fun watching it. But ocean liner safety is no joke. If you think your ship is at risk of imminent collision with an iceberg or other water-based obstacle, or if you think your captain's judgment has been impaired by intoxicating liquor, please contact Marine VHF-FM Channel 16 (156.8 MHz) for immediate Coast Guard assistance. Together we can keep oceanic voyages safe for everyone.

Even if it's a perfectly modest selfie it's just disrespectful, they might not want other people to see it. Ask. It's incredible that some people still have trouble with this concept.

matt π΄ (matt@cybre.space)'s status on Wednesday, 18-Apr-2018 09:03:09 EDT matt π΄ Everything about our society is designed to isolate us and make us fear each other. How are we supposed to come together and rise up if we never see each other? If we never see anyone different from us? We have no public spaces. People are afraid to use public transit. There are no public restrooms or seats. We put spikes everywhere so homeless people can't sit down. The only time we ever see a lot of other people at once is at Wal-Mart.
Fuck the US, fuck car culture, and fuck our calculated isolationism.

matt π΄ (matt@cybre.space)'s status on Friday, 13-Apr-2018 10:18:22 EDT matt π΄ Just saw a "free software" manifesto that actually says that "software should be written for programmers", and... how can anyone be this dense? If software is only usable by a small percentage of people with highly specialized technical skills, it's not really free, is it? You're just replacing one gatekeeper with another.
Instead of software being controlled by capitalistic monopolists, you're advocating it be controlled by a small technocratic elite. That's not better!!!

matt π΄ (matt@cybre.space)'s status on Saturday, 24-Mar-2018 11:00:18 EDT matt π΄ Hard to believe "Now That's What I Call Music!" is almost 100 years old. I fondly remember the first edition, then called "Here's The Ditties Mama Loves to Hum", a gramophone record with a 2 1/2 minute recording of "Them Dandy New York Dandies Ain't So Dandy After-All (extended)" by Clinton "Fats" McGarnagle on Side A; on side B, a shockingly racist traditional tune arranged for the short-lived Electrohydraulic Tubaphone

"Itβs something so basic to your experience that you donβt even realize itβs a thing you would miss if you didnβt have it"
Actually got a little emotional reading this. What a powerful statement.

Any time a website or program won't allow you to copy and paste text, you can take a screenshot, press F9 and click any of the highlighted text, or click and drag to select. Some minor cleanup might be necessary but it's a lot faster than just typing it all out.

matt π΄ (matt@cybre.space)'s status on Thursday, 25-Jan-2018 09:37:51 EST matt π΄ Some people argue re: adblockers "I'm okay with reasonable, non-invasive ads, because the people running the site have to make money somehow." But websites aren't intrinsically valuable. If I visit a site and it fucking sucks, why should the people responsible make money from me? I don't whitelist anything. The advertising model itself is bad. People are incentivized not to do good work, but to trick as many people into looking at it as possible. The quality is irrelevant.
