I think one thing that's important to remember is that #Mastodon isn't trying to kill Twitter. Twitter is doing a fine job of that on its own and doesn't really need the help.

What it is trying to do is create a good, safe service where we can all have a good time and be productive and share art and writing and music and oats, and generally be a bunch of doofuses with a thing for large, ice age mammals together.

Mastodon.ART is a great place to go if you make or love visual arts, and @Curator is well worth following even if you don't make an account there.

wandering.shop and writing.exchange and tootplanet.space are all lovely for writers.

@pzmyers I was reading commentary about how the authoritarians *should* love them, because they're mostly white, poor and working class, originated in flyover country, etc.

But the Juggalos are the "bad" poor. Uppity, disobedient, like having fun in unapproved ways, listen to black-coded music. Which lines them up with the Undeserving Poor to be dehumanized, rather than the Good Poor like R-voting rednecks.
