@sean Back in 99/00 I remember my housemate getting the DVD for 'WW2 In Colour'. It felt amazing to watch such footage.

It makes history feel very recent, though. You remember that many of these things were not so long ago, and yet one visualizes them in this distant, monochrome way.

@starbreaker Very Nice. I was an i3 junkie for a long time, I just haven't got around to getting it configured the way I need it again on my new boxes.

@starbreaker I have a Cinnamon session available that is an X11 playground; I will probably experiment some more with it.

Apropos of Macs I still don't now how people get on with the really weird GUI and window management. I've never found it particularly intuitive.

@starbreaker My son has my old T61 with Slackware on it. Still going strong.

@starbreaker Oh it's quite alright. I actually really like the laptop, it was given as an eval model at work and is exceptionally reliable; it's only in the last ten months (eye surgery) that I've got very particular about screens.

@starbreaker I"m pretty sure it runs in XWayland (like most apps, haha) but a lot of tweak apps like Xrandr/Redshift won't work at all.

@starbreaker Plus, Dell use a weird automatic contrast system which is quite infamous; it's hardware controlled and I think causes the slightly odd look under certain lighting conditions.

Dell call it CABC, and it's one of those techniques that is clever, but really weird.

We're at that time of year when nothing's open on campus.
