    @bitgeist Why not check in on the SDF net tonight on EchoLink? See: http://sdfarc.org/net.html

    Checking in via RF is encouraged but qtel is fine too.

    @craigmaloney I work balance due cases. The longest anything takes to post is 10 days and that is if a check is mailed in. If there is a 24 day lead time on *anything* then somebody screwed up royally. That would be a scenario where, if I handled the call, I would start penalty abatement consideration *sua sponte*. If you called in you'd have to specifically ask...and you should.

    @rpcutts @andyc That would be because one of our US Supreme Court Justices, David Souter, stated in a court case about 15 years ago that while the Universal Declaration of Human Rights declares things it doesn't bind the US government without implementing legislation. He also cited Eleanor Roosevelt, who helped draft the bloody thing originally, calling it a statement of principles only.

    @rw Yeah. The folks at USBP screwed up. People at other agencies simply work through the avenues their unions establish. NTEU is good for something, at least. I think we’ve mastered the art of committing necessary things to verbal-only at work.

    @rw After the freak-out by Pro Publica over secret Facebook groups by some federal civil servants in USBP, I'm surprised we're not seeing all federal civil servants being tarred and feathered due to who POTUS currently happens to be. I did my vicious pruning of people/entities being followed. The constant panic is starting to get to me to where I want to curl up in bed with the some poorly written RFCs about the Internet and some hot tea.

    Many people have good critical thinking and recognise con artists, but many don't. Many fall for them, I know some who have done so.

    Whatever your message, the more people you reach, the more responses you get including the responses you want.

    Even if a smaller percentage of a wider audience respond, the absolute number is much larger, and that's what matters in elections, primaries, fundraisers etc.

    @DashEquals @jaywink

    Their goal is to recruit more Nazis.

    All they have to do is reach as many people as possible, because they know a certain percentage will respond to their propaganda.

    Allowing them in WILL tear us apart, not just online but in the real world.

    We know what happened last time people thought they could be appeased or debated.

    @jamie @jaywink @DashEquals

    Again, it's not just about what users find objectionable.

    The problem is recruitment: if someone is swayed by neo-Nazi propaganda, they won't *want* to block it, they will go back for more.

    And the consequences of that would be felt in the real world.

    What *they* want you to think is that federation with them is an acceptable idea, because the marketplace of ideas will defeat them in the end.

    But it won't.

    Nazis don't operate on an intellectual level. They operate on an emotional level where they tell any lie to try to provoke an irrational response.

    They try to get people to think their families are in danger if the "outsiders" aren't stopped (i.e. PoC, muslims, LGBTs etc).

    Debating Nazis doesn't work.
