It’s kind of cathartic when a racist, islamophobic, transphobic bigot threatens you by saying they’ll tell everyone that you refuse to debate their racial and biological theories, and you can reply with: “Yes! Please! Go tell everyone that!” 💁🏼

Coming face-to-face with naked, unabashed, and unrestrained racism and transphobia is a terrifying and upsetting experience... even when it's only through a faceless, distant comment thread, and even when *I* am not the target.

I can't imagine what it must feel like to be the direct target, or to experience face-to-face.

This series is about religious accessories bans, and technically a ban on facial coverings isn’t a religious accessories ban. Or is it? Spoiler alert: It usually is.

The second major argument of religious accessories ban supporters is the "they're just advertisements" claim, that states - without evidence, of course - the supporter's opinion that religious accessories are nothing more than billboards to advertise or proselytize the wearer's faith. Let's see how that stands up to real evidence. https://www.canadianatheist.com/2019/04/religious-accessories-bans-5-proselytizing-by-accessories/ !atheism !secular !SecularHumanism

Two weeks ago I introduced a series on religious accessories bans, and last week was spent laying out some preamble (stuff to consider *before* considering a religious accessories ban). RationalWiki is an excellent resource! But as with all things, do approach it cautiously - it does go a little too far in some places, and sometimes strays out of "rational" and into emotive.
