@Gargron I'm not convinced that we would've dropped the overt racism if it weren't for certain historical events. After all, if your culture genuinely believes that non-whites are non-human, it's easy to morally justify treating them like animals and not feel the least bit of guilt about it. If your culture's standards of animal welfare are low, giving a horse or a slave a good whip is also entirely fine. There are no absolute moral laws except for the ones we happen to collectively agree on.

@Gargron Who wasn't like that back then, though? Hell, even Winston Churchill had similar opinions, and that was centuries later. Nobody really saw a problem with racism until WWII was over, and the atrocities of the Nazis were revealed. The American public, who didn't witness this first hand, took even longer to change their mind about it.

Customer's website needs to be migrated to a new server.
1. Give customer neat and orderly list of steps to be carried out by all involved people.
2. Ask customer for suitable migration date.
3. Customer gives a date.
4. Customer actually didn't understand anything at all and is confused about what's going to happen.

Just walked 4.7 km (2.9 mi) in 50 minutes - from Skøyen stasjon to Fredensborgveien via Solli plass, Stortinget and Akersgata. It looks like my average walking speed is quite high: 5.64 km/h (3.5 mi/h).

@tiphra Intolerant of me? Definitely! But it's not my duty to be tolerant. It is, however, my right to speak up if I see things I object to, and non-Western immigration is one of them.
At no time during my rural childhood did anyone ever imply that all these people we have in the country now are Norwegian. Being Norwegian is more than having a Norwegian passport.
Being Caucasian helps, but isn't essential. Hadia Tajik is Norwegian. Most of the 2nd generation immigrants in Grønland are not.

@tiphra For me, it goes further. I don't like the sight of men with large religious beards or woman in burkas + pink down jackets on the bus in the morning. They look like fish out of water. The young male muslims I have interacted with have all made me feel uneasy, and they're people who grew up here and are supposed to be Norwegian! "Norwegian Muslim" is a contradiction in terms. If you're an ethnic Norwegian and convert to Islam, that's not too different from treason if you ask me...

Adults are bad at adapting to a new cultures because their opinions have already been formed. I most certainly wouldn't embrace Islam if I moved to the Middle East, so why should I expect a Muslim that migrates to Norway to adapt to Western secularism? Therefore, I think that migration between culturally dissimilar countries is a bad idea.

There is apparently a problem where taxi drivers are refusing to pick up passengers with seeing-eye dogs. Just read about one of many cases in the news. They had censored the driver's face, but it was obvious that he was dark-skinned, and if you're dark-skinned in Norway, you're 99.9% likely to be a Muslim. Guess what animal Muslims don't want anywhere near them... Guess which article didn't point out the obvious because that would be un-PC...
My opinion? Adapt to your new country or GTFO.

Has anyone here had a problem with very strong cravings for calorie rich foods that don't seem to go away until you actually eat calorie rich foods? I've tried substituting with healthier food, but I just get hungry again when I do that, as if my body is insisting on having actual calories. I didn't have these cravings for the first year after the bariatric surgery, but they are really coming on strong now.

Tomorrow is the first day of work after easter.
My plan is to take a 1 hour 45 minute walk to work, and to keep doing that every day.

Oh, and a full history of what I've posted on the subject of MEMS microphone arrays can be found here:

The technique is basically to keep the front microphone untouched, using a high-pass filter on the microphone right behind it, and a low-pass filter tuned to the same frequency on the rear microphone. I'm effectively combining two different cardioid microphones — where one is tuned for low frequencies and the other is tuned for high frequencies — and then gluing them together with a crossover filter. The result isn't flat, but it needs a lot less parametric EQ gain than my previous design.

1 meter on-axis, 1 meter off-axis and 20 centimeter on-axis response for the microphone array I'm working on. My simulator now displays the array itself (see the bottom right graph).
I think I've found a clever way of using 3 microphones, delays and crossover filters to get a near-optimal cardioid polar pattern at all frequencies without getting a comb filter at high frequencies or needing insane EQ gain levels to flatten the frequency response.

@jeremiah Ole-Johan Dahl from Norway, yes. Funny how a Norwegian invented it and a Dane figured out how to make C do it.

It just occurred to me that every time we use a message queue to pass messages between different objects, threads or processes, all we're really doing is reinventing really crappy versions of Smalltalk.
