One of my fav childhood books was a C manual (not K&R C immigrant-ass me ain't finding that in my suburb library)

I learned C but it mentioned nothing about needing a compiler!

I spent five years confused by edit.com didn't do the magic

and five years confused by Microsoft/Borland/DJGPP references of compiler flags

and compiled my first C program 10+ years after learning C
