could we please stop saying things are "available for linux" because there's an electron app?
that's not "available for linux", that's "available for linux on x86/64 hardware".
Let's make 2020 the year we stop teaching children how to be employable and instead teach children how to be healthy people
Long ago, I thought I was special, different than everyone else, and I was surrounded by adults who reinforced that thought daily.
Eventually, I realized that I was special, different than everyone else, and so was every other person in the world.
They left out the important bit. We're each special and different and that's what makes us awesome.
I celebrate your special difference, friends, each of you. May it bring you the joy in the coming years that it has brought me getting to know each of you during the last few.

this behavior is decades older than that, going back to the beginnings of the home computer revolution when almost every computer had a momentary-press reset button specifically for taking the computer back to a known good state. it just got more inefficient when manufacturers started leaving off reset buttons and forcing users to twice-toggle the power switch instead. the fact that using the reset button preserved no data for troubleshooting implied that none was necessary; best to move forward rather than look back.
A reminder that Sunday Morning Jazz in Sundogistan counts as attending church.

@ajroach42 aaaaaaaaaaaa
I will continue to update this thread throughout the next few days as I become more acquainted with my new pal.
Also, expect some feedback on the internals tomorrow, as I expect to receive the NVMe drive that is destined for mounting in the pinebook pro by the end of today.
The power light flashes as a drive use indicator and this is immediately better than 99% of the laptops on the market.

Fullscreen youtube looks and sounds good, but masto doesn't like videos from my phone, so imagine a video of a video playing back here (it is Jamiroquai's "King for a Day" if you are a method tootreader)
It's snappy!
The keyboard feels nice, unexpectedly!
Cold boot to login screen is about ten seconds on the default OS image running from eMMC.
Battery came charged to approx. 80% according to battery app in dock, which it translates to approx. 8 hours of run time remaining.
Overall, feels quite a bit more substantial than the pinebook1080. Deffo comes across as higher quality via fit and finish.
eeeeee intensifies
I think the one thing this whole "Alex and Sydney having a baby" situation has shown us is that the fediverse needs a more resilient, predictable way of producing new folk.
@requiem smuggle out one of their Hero-1 robots for me and I'll reimburse you for the costs of your trip 😈
you don't log in
there's no server
there's no app
it doesn't use GPS or augmented reality
you just see someone else with their phone out and you play a honk sound and see if they honk back
untitled goose game go
a bunch of people wandering the world making their phones honk at each other
society collectively lost something when we stopped ending each computering session by toggling a chonky mechanical switch from on to off and watched the computering fade from the screen.
pro tip from an old cat who's been dealing with people complaining about preferring electronic communications to face-to-face communications for decades:
the next time someone gives you grief for your screen time, show them how you're having three separate conversations with the same group of people without anyone losing track of any of the three subjects and then ask them to replicate that standing in a group of four people at the same rate of conversation as the online group.
the only times I've ever seen a group pull it off face-to-face was when the group originally formed their bonds electronically and honed their group communication style over an extended period.
your mileage my vary.
