my copy of MGS2 froze due to a disc error during the cut scene before the harrier boss fight. didn't have time/patience to debug but I hope it's just a fluke and I can keep playing.

something is really wack with my particle system code. I don't know how I didn't these obvious issues earlier but I noticed particles appearing in very incorrect places in my tetris clone and sometimes all the particles would just disappear! I think I've fixed one of the major issues but there's still some really strange stuff going on that is puzzling me.

one issue with charging an electric car at home is that it throws off the data I get from the electric company that compares my usage to "efficient neighbors" and "all neighbors". since most people aren't charging electric cars at home, it's sort of like comparing apples and oranges. we're generally in between the two data points and it's hard to tell if we'd be in the efficient group if we were able to separate out all energy spent charging the car. I suspect that we're more efficient overall because the increased electricity usage is replacing gasoline, but I don't really know.

the mbta commuter rail app is called mTicket, which I like to pronounce as m'ticket *tips fedora*

also it's a shame that Kojima got mad at the translation author for not doing a literal translation. Kojima is a hell of a game designer, but he's certainly not without his flaws. among them is not casting David Hayter in MGSV.

there's something so interesting about finding out that a thing you assumed happened so far away (like Tokyo or LA) actually happened nearby.
