... and so they say, once every year on what's now called Black Friday, the ghost of American Retail is permitted to rise from Business Hell for twenty four hours, dragging a chain of abandoned and rotting shopping malls behind it, on a never-ending vengeance quest to find and destroy the Amazon Headquarters
I published a release in the beta channel (1.31.0-beta-1) :
- Manage profiles for the battery (settings -> optimizations)
- Fix an issue with pull to refresh and the conversations timeline
** There are three profiles (Normal, medium, low). The low mode will require more manual actions for refreshing the content but you should still get notifications (not live ones).
@enkiv2@nonphatic@a_breakin_glass When I lead people through constructing the naturals, I always like to include zero just so I have an additive identity. Having a multiplicative identity but not an additive one bugs me. And just feels like a nicer construction generally.
the fact that you geolocated my IP address as registered in a certain country does not mean that I speak that country's language. I have configured my browser to send to you the list of languages I speak (in order of preference) in every fucking request, so kindly please use that.
What I am doing though, is using biodegradeable coffee cups and lids as shelter for the mealworms, because if they eat and digest those, they're food-grade and biodegradeable anyway so the break-up will only accelerate composting. Food-grade bioplastic waste could definitely be accelerated and reduced using this method. Just slice it up finely with a scissors and add to the normal bedding. #Mealworm#Composting: Turning coffee-cups into chicken snacks the lazy way. :)
I've been trying out #Matrix the past couple of days: 'An open network for secure, decentralized communication'.
It's kinda like the Mastodon of messengers, or more accurately the fediverse of messengers, although calling it a #messenger is a bit of an understatement.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I think it's great! A much needed solution to an increasing problem, not sure why I held of from checking it out for so long! 😅
A survey from UK exposes wildly excessive use of unpaid interns in arts, media and even retail, something which has been going on for decades here and is of course now skewing the demographics of those who do eventually get paying jobs in these sectors..
(the only place I think unpaid work experience is tolerable is for a week or two at high school aged <16, not for young adults)
“If the old model is broken, what will work in its place?”
NOTHING
“With the old economics destroyed, organizational forms perfected for industrial production have to be replaced with structures optimized for digital data. It makes increasingly less sense even to talk about a publishing industry, because the core problem publishing solves — the incredible difficulty, complexity, and expense of making something available to the public — has stopped being a problem.”
No wonder my apt packages weren't updating properly. Google changed their Origin from "Google, Inc." to "Google LLC" in their Chrome repository and that made apt-get update error out when it ran overnight as a cron job.
(Yes, I know, I'm not supposed to be using apt-get anymore, you don't need to Explain At me.)
Average people in my area are starting to move from WhatsApp to Telegram. This surprises me given how resistant these people were for anything that isn't WhatsApp, but now it's okay because Everyone is Doing It™.
This shows is that the average user have no problem switching as long as the rest of the herd starts moving first. They are there to be part of the herd.
So, what causes the critical point that gets a herd moving? In this particular case, WhatsApp has too small a limit on group chat memberships.
My goal is to provide a well-tested, flexible library that handles the complicated parts of ActivityPub (JSON-LD, persistence, addressing, etc.) in a way that can be plugged into an existing PHP codebase with no hassle. That'll help me refactor #Pterotype, and will also make it easy for other developers to make developers to make plugins for Joomla, Drupal, etc.
I was just thinking I should like to have the ability to have some of my work peer-reviewed, and in turn provide that service to others.
It then occurred to me that this is probably how journals come about, and maybe what I need to do is found a journal. Something transparent, perhaps a #coop?
But this leaves me with one question: in this context, who are my peers?
@charlag@clacke from what I've read, Moxie doesn't care if #Signal is on F-Droid or not, but is no longer of to it if someone else does the work. I got a support email from #Wire today saying they'd like to be on F-Droid, but they have a few non-free dependencies to replace before it would be possible. Also that Wire only requires Play Services on Android versions older than 5.x
@Codeawayhaley You seem like someone who would know, so while you're on the subject of rainfall over deep continental areas.. There's a hypothesis that, because trees can help nucleate clouds through transpiration & VOCs & pollen, they help increase rain. And further, by moving water in this way they tend to create patterns of rainfall inland from coastal forests, with that pattern repeating as a "pump" to push water deeper into continents. Is this legit, though?
