The new Firefox beta is only faster than the old version if you don't factor in time spent going outside to retrieve your laptop after you threw it out the window because all your key bindings don't work any more and now holding down ctrl-p opens twenty seven print dialog boxes instead of going to the previous line.

HN loves to trash Mastodon without actually understanding anything about it.

A discussion about monoids on HN reminded me that the best introduction to monoids I've ever seen doesn't even use the term. Section 2.2.4 of SICP, the picture language, is all about monoids! Highly recommended reading.

I have been wondering what this weird vine that showed up by my hostas was. Turns out it's wild cucumber! And apparently it's native? https://toot.cat/media/-k9bDUPb9vTIXfFVKIs

There is a volunteer milkweed growing next to my steps. Came home from work to find this beautiful monarch caterpillar munching on it. https://toot.cat/media/RXzYBmAP7SAuvQpJOAM

I found these 2 Polygon articles interesting. They're both about how game developers trick you into feeling the way they want you to.

@cwebber I hope the Equifax execs go down hard for this one. They've known about this breach since *July*!

@cwebber yeah it's possible that gap buffers would be a bad fit. I guess vim got it right by using ropes?

"Gap Buffers Are Not Optimized for Multiple Cursors"

I have never looked into what a "gap buffer" was, and after reading this article I have a much better idea of how they work and how Emacs makes use of them.
