"The best Cyber Monday deals according to Alexa: any Amazon-owned brand"
And this is why the eroding of antitrust is bad.
For the first book of #TechnicolorRainbow book club, let's read Cory Doctorow's Walkaway!
It's a techno utopian story about how the world in the near future has such economic inequality that the few super rich don't need the many poor in the post scarcity world, so the poor just leave that unequal world and start their own society with all the tech that destroyed the need to work.
As Neal Stephenson describes it:
“The Bhagavad Gita of hacker/maker/burner/open source/git/gnu/wiki/99%/adjunctfaculty/Anonymous/shareware/thingiverse/cypherpunk/LGTBQIA*/squatter/upcycling culture...zipped it down into a pretty damned tight techno-thriller with a lot of sex in it.”
Figured this is a good first one as it's been talked about on fedi a bit.
Find a copy from your library, or friend. If you're buying a new digital copy, buy it from Cory's site, the money that would have gone to Amazon just goes to him.

Figure this will go through until the end of the year as people's schedules will be hectic with the holidays.
Don't really know, do we have one time near the end where we all talk? Thinks it's fine to just post when you want, don't want to lose your thought for the moment any way.
"Capitalism is the most efficient way to distribute resources."
"But just a few are obscenely rich while many can barely live."
"Then that must be the most efficient state, because it's a result of capitalism."
A friend got injured and now having trouble paying their Uber Ambulance.
They have some Libra cryptocoin saved but are short.
But Facebook is having a promotion of double rewards for extra engagement, so if you can give a like or share it would really help them.
Tech enthusiast: "I want smart lights, smart tv, everything, and connect them all to my digital assisstant!"
Tech worker: *looks wistfully into distance* "I should get a small place in a little town, with a garden, make my own furniture."
Remember how Facebook said your 2FA phone number was for security then used it for advertising? And their VPN that actually spied on you?
Any way, they said their Libra crypto currency is handled by a different group and they won't access your financial data.
When a service could work without always connected to the cloud but doesn't, it just proves their primary concern is gathering your data and not providing that service.
"That major Google outage meant some Nest users couldn’t unlock doors or use the AC"
Tor's ebook club is giving away Cory Doctorow's book Walkaway.
Read the story of people that are no longer needed by the "zotta-rich" who own all the automated production, so they "walkaway" and build their own communities with open-source versions of the very same automation technologies that rendered those people superfluous in the "default" world.
Computers are rocks we tricked into thinking with lightning.
@SetecAstronomy Ugh, hardcopy.
If you're good at something, ̶n̶e̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶d̶o̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶f̶r̶e̶e̶ do it for free, destroy capitalism, build a community.
