But much like the myths of the "welfare queen" or the myth of trans women "attacking" cis women in bathrooms, centrists and right-wingers fabricate beliefs out of whole cloth in order to excuse and deflect from their own bigotry. The welfare queen myth arose when black women were among the most under-employed demographic for their education level, and the myths about dangerous trans women arose despite the fact that trans women are among the groups most at risk of violence.

We already knew he was super racist. He had already said and done an entire litany of things that were obviously anti-black/brown.

The media's "sudden realization" that he's a white supremacist is an attempt to move the bar for correctly identifying someone as racist into cartoon villain territory.

His systemic attacks on PoC weren't enough for media outlets to peg him as racist, his bigoted speech wasn't enough either. Only his laughably extreme monologuing was enough.

We can talk about air quality and that can be useful, but sudden faux-concern about screenshots is a way to re-route the discussion away from the main issue. The person who criticized popstar boosted a bunch of fedichive screenshots yesterday. She's not morally opposed to screenshots unless it makes her look bad.

All she had to say was "I'm sorry I was more concerned with the optics of witches.live than supporting your effort to protect everyone against racism."

It's not counterproductive to alert people to danger on the fediverse.

@ArtistMarciaX This is why the U.S. will snatch children who sell small amounts of a harmless flower from their families and place them in the least safe and most abusive environment possible. It was never about the "harms" of pot. It was never about minimizing harm at all, it was just racism.

That's why when you didn't follow a "rule" that some random whitesup person on the internet made up on the spot, they felt it appropriate to stalk and harrass you. Way worse than any effect of your post.

This also gives lie to the fearmongering about "reverse-racism." If it were real even in the over-simplistic way it's usually invoked, a majority of PoC would be talking about how white people are fundamentally genetically inferior and suggest that we need to clear Neanderthal genes from our species. I've never heard anyone say this, even once. It's horrible and immoral, and that's the thing we're fighting.

When the term "white" was first used to define a group of people in a U.S. legal document in 1705, one of the first privileges it provided was that "non-whites" could no longer testify against people categorized as "white" in court. Whiteness was explicitly defined by law as a free pass for violence and greed, and that's never changed.
