I'm looking for a live USB distro for quick development.
ie plug it in a library computer, pull code, edit it, compile and test it, push it, shut down
    Any ideas?

@unused0 i'll keep an eye out for other threads on the topic then. If it turns out to be an impact area then awesome!

@unused0 I see this point brought up a lot both on these threads and on HN. I'm curious what sort of difference efficient code makes on the end usage of energy. If I'm on bare metal, it's drawing power whether I'm loading a crappy webpage or not, right? Is that a tangible difference? If I'm on a virtual cluster, my unused cycles are just going to another user, aren't they? Is this a case of little stuff adding up to a lot? Is there a real payoff?

Thanks to everyone for chiming in on the coders vs climate change question. I've a few tangible leads to follow up with.

@erkin nope. it's been intentionally ignored by the gopher community almost from the moment it was released

@solderpunk it's more about putting your skills to good use. Everything you say is true, but what more can people with this specific skillset give back that others can't?

Great question on HN today: "What can a coder do to help combat climate change?"

The responses are all pretty lame, though. What ideas do you have? What groups are doing something tangible where volunteer coding could help?

I pushed out v0.3.2 of gophwr, my graphical #gopher client in #Racket!
It now supports clickable links, queries, and adjustable colours.

(Binary releases don't require Racket to be installed.)
    gopher://gopher.erkin.party/1/gophwr

It's still very unpolished, so patches and bug reports are welcome!

I'm excited to read Al Sweigart's _Cracking Codes With Python_. After a friend wrote me a #Python script to convert binary to integers (w/ my own tweaks for characters) to speed my solving of #geocache #ciphers, I'm eager to use Python for Affine, Vigenere, Nihilist ciphers and codes.
