this activates my almonds because although it makes sense from a historic literary standpoint (and a demographic standpoint for most of where I assume you and I hang out), it is also a prescriptivist (retarded in two senses) thing to say in the modern world, and I would also much rather be ambiguous than wrong.

Doxing can occur with just a facebook search (doesn't need to be legal name), and the pronoun can be used to narrow down a search when confirming an identity. For example:

I slip to a malicious acquaintance that I reside on a specific instance. They decide to find the account and dox it. Looking through the user list, they analyze pronouns first and ancillary info like interests/speech patterns/etc next. The pronoun just made their job 3 times easier.

in that case you can type out their nick lol. (Also singular they is amazing and it bugs me when somebody over the tubes wants to specify their pronoun when it's not directly relevant to discussion (also not that many people actually read bios) )

against pronouns as a matter of principle. I would rather have people just @ me instead of using pronouns (normalizing pronouns in bio encourages people to dox themselves by revealing personal info)

Gnu social (classic) has built-in poll functionality where you can specify n choices and other users can select one (these votes federate like normal messages)
