@adasauce I feel personally attacked.

@vattuvarg I'm not casting blame, just making an observation. I made a decision to buy a new device. It was a good decision. But I also had a moment of nostalgia for the old one.

Brazil got rid of daylight saving time and some people are not happy about it.

How to get me to open a CW post: label it as "extremely curse, do not open."

I was going to jokingly say I should make a "shit post" alt that literally just talks about my daily shits. Then I remembered that I once found a Twitter account that does this and the joke gets old immediately.

@keithzg @ThatGeoGuy For sure. And, for cooking, it's usually wine or beer, and a single can of beer or a cup of wine is going to be so diluted in a big pot of chili/stew/whatever that you're not going to notice any meaningful effect from the alcohol. So we assume it's cooked off but really it's just not enough to actually make an impact.

@keithzg @ThatGeoGuy Huh. That's interesting! I'm surprised how much is retained when it's flamed (which, I assume, means literally setting it on fire). But maybe I shouldn't be, considering there are at least a handful of shots that are set alight just before you consume them.

@ThatGeoGuy Except that, you know, it wasn't actually noticeable until I decided, sort of on a whim, to give this Dry January thing a whirl.

@ThatGeoGuy No worries. I wasn't super clear. And starting the thread off talking about "sobriety" obviously lends itself to a particular interpretation. I wouldn't say I've ever had a drinking problem, but I've always been a pretty regular drinker and it's surprising the effects that you just don't notice until you give it up for a while.
I rarely ever get drunk but apparently even having just one or two beers more days than not has a noticeable impact on my mental health.

@ThatGeoGuy I've seen one product, that is currently only available in the US (and only on Amazon, it seems). I'm curious about it, but the reviews I've read are not great.
I don't *need* to cut out alcohol. I don't have substance abuse problems, but deciding to do Dry January has revealed to me just how much better I feel without it. I will be much more mindful about when/where I choose to partake. And if I can get the same or similar flavours without the alcohol, why not?

@frostotron Probably, in this world, hobbies and work could overlap more, in a meaningful and enjoyable way, so maybe I'd make fermented food in a community kitchen or something, as well.

@frostotron I'd probably put my writing/PR skills to some more community-oriented use, helping let people know what's going on, how to access various services, libraries, etc. Maybe this is just a community newsletter
I'd also take time to do some small scale manual labour: helping in a community garden, maybe being a grunt helping build stuff that smarter people have designed (tell me where to swing the hammer and I'm ready to go!).

@ThatGeoGuy I forget the exact command. The information about renaming the default user is correct, but renaming the default home directory is not (and, in fact, they have the instructions in two different places; I think the second, more detailed version, is correct).

@keithzg That worked like a charm, thanks! Of course, now I have two instance of Chrome, the "regular" and the masked version. I suppose I can just delete the unmasked version now. :)

@keithzg Silly question: how do I download that? Do I just copy and paste all the text? It opens in a browser tab, rather than as a downloadable file.

@ItsTheManOnTheMoon I admit, I hoped this was going to be a joke toot and under the CW would just be the word "cutlery."

@keithzg When it makes sense to do so, you should also contribute to the Pine64 wiki.
