@Moon a strange game
the only winning move is not to play
-
@Moon It's more so that I can understand who my wife is swearing at when talking to her mom, especially important to know if it's me

Now that I've accepted that I get the best results opening full screen apps on Linux with the C64 is by using VT102 emulation in 80 columns mode (and ASCII only, no ANSI), I'm not sure what I can do to improve my LAN BBS.
Same PVM that has my C64 plugged in has a Raspberry Pi running Kodi on another input.
With some clever scripting, I think I could probably set it up so that when I try to open an image or video on W3M on the C64, the "viewer" is a script that curls a command to Kodi through the HTTP remote control interface to load that image or video, and I could view it by switching input. Not the most elegant way of viewing content, since I have to manually change input, but still cool.

I mean, sure, before any pedant argues, yes TEEECHNICALLY I can make a mailbox with any arbitrary domain. But without control over the MX records it's not likely to recieve much, and without control over SPF records, it's not likely to be trusted much as a sender either.
-
I love getting those requests.
"Please create an email something@other.company's.domain"
"We can't it's their domain, we don't control it."
"We did it for another company's domain"
I wonder how they think domains work. That we can make any arbitrary mailbox on any domain and it's all just a gentlemen's agreement IT people not to spoof other people's domains?

@tk It's perfectly acceptable if it's a lobster roll (or another type of "guédille" as we call them here)

@enigmatico I get that feel. Maintaining support for old technology forever is an unrealistic expectation, especially when it involves running costs and security costs. But I think it's well worthwhile maintaining bridges between old and new technology, even if it's technically cheating. The best tool for that is inexpensive "building block" SBCs like a Raspberry Pi. You can run something like Bitlbee to hook up anything that can access IRC to more "modern" messaging protocols like Discord or Facebook Messenger. You can run a text browser and access it from any computer with a terminal emulator and at minimum a serial port.
But mobile, yes, that's a tough one. I've tried going back to older phones a couple of times, going back to Symbian, to BB10. Changing encryption, horribly bloated modern webpages and older networks shutting down make it almost impossible. Within a few years, it will become an absolute requirement that a phone supports VoLTE to make calls on mobile networks at all. And it's not like people can run their own mobile providers.

@noyoushutthefuckupdad @Moon Use a throwaway computer or VM that you use for nothing but streaming
-
@noyoushutthefuckupdad I'm not sure about stealing bandwidth, but moon has something setup for live streaming games doesn't he? What's stopping you or someone else from streaming VLC or another normal media player playing anime? It's not going to steal the bandwidth but at least it would spare you having to reencode.

@helene @prouddegenerate If there is such an agency, I would like to get in touch with them to inquire about the wereabouts of a cat. A certain Erik, also known as "cute baby..."

@hikari @Shigure @ChristiJunior @ItsSkyDragonz @coolboymew You liking the Retroid Pocket 2+? How good's the Dreamcast emulation?
I'm be curious if it can play Marvel vs. Capcom 2 without slowdown or bugs; the Miyoo Mini can play pretty much all major 2D fighting games up to CPS3 and PSX, but no DC/NAOMI.
