@cereal @lain @Arcana @kaia I hate defending Microsoft, but I doubt it's so that they can spy through it, probably more so they can market a feature. The article mentions the requirement is for new laptops only, my guess is this is so they can advertise Windows Hello. They've had a lot of issues on Windows 10 helping Windows Hello get any sort of traction because so many computers, even today, don't come with a Windows Hello capable webcam. By requiring one they can standardize the experience.
I still don't like that an OS dev is dictating what hardware companies should ship, but it all seems much likelier than thinking it's so the CIA can watch you masturbate.

@lain I don't know... I don't think so?
I love PeerTube conceptually, but it seems anything that isn't porn or piracy that's there is political discourse that's very deep inside some political rabbit holes (wanna call them conspiracy theories, but considering it's not any worse than the mainstream slop I don't think it deserves the implied insult).

@Mitsu Poor baby... :blobsadreach:

There is something even stronger than latino...

@cjd @silverpill Yes, the default node server (Geth) or any other node server can expose the RPC API needed by Metamask (and other wallet software) to access the chain.

@Moon @lain I went to help someone from work with their home setup and they lived in a building where all the condos have a balcony on an indoor tropical forest, with a swimming pond and everything. Reminder: I live in Montreal, these people have a tropical forest all year long.

@cjd @Hyolobrika @thor Running a full node is not that bad, I run one on an old decommissioned desktop PC, and I'm not even running the most efficient node software. Erigon can sync on hard drives (as opposed to SSD only for others). And even an archive node (only useful if you wanna run your own block explorer) is still under 2 Tb with Erigon. And some people run nodes on rPi 4 with an external SSD just fine.

@lain @kaia Yeah. It's a weak one though. An Allwinner D1, 1ghz and 1 gb RAM. And I'm not sure of the status of RISC-V distros. But the module was cheap, so I ordered one.
-
@lain @kaia It's usable to me, but I have to be honest and admit I'm sacrificing some comfort for aesthetic. It's not just the Devterm itself, but the form factor gives you less screen and less keyboard in the same package than a laptop, or even a small netbook.

@medli You can block me but you can't forever block the memories of what you did.

@medli He was real. Then you killed him, remember?

@wowaname I like it because it's a distro that doesn't get in the way. It tries to do as much as it can in a "standard linux" way instead of making distro-specific tools. It's not trying to be a power user distro like a Gentoo or an Arch does. It's probably a familiarity thing; I learned linux in the late 90s and I think it was fine how it was, and that's what Slackware mostly gives you.

@why Because Slackware are like underwear; every two years or so they start being all used up, smelly and crusty, so we need a new one.
And good lord we've been wearing our 14.2 underwear for 6 years now.

It's time. Formatting and installing Slackware 15 on my T410.
