@coolboymew Yeah, got one of these things; put my own library of ROMs of pretty much all consoles from PS1 backwards. Also does some pretty impressive arcades; I can play SFIII: 3rd Strike on the metro.

Oh yeah, my cousin had that and I thought "WOW, I'd never get bored if I had that many games!", but of course, now I know many games were basically rom hacks, and pretty much all of them were small, earlier NES games that didn't bank switch and used very rudimentary mappers, if any at all.

After seeing @coolboymew 's message about it, I played a bit of Yie Ar Kung Fu (NES) on the metro, and had a surprising amount of fun.
Pre-Street Fighter fighting games are interesting, this was still a popular enough genre before some very important low-hanging game design fruits were picked by Capcom. -

@coolboymew @Oaghaji @Moon In the same genre (pre-Street Fighter fighting games), International Karate is pretty fun, if you're willing to let go of some Street Fighter conventions.
Attacks don't look for collisions in a range, but at a specific point at the end of the attack animation, so it's all about positioning and baiting out a movement that puts the enemy in position to get hit. -

@lain There’s a french video game adaptation of Ubik by Cyro Interactive, it’s… weird. I remember trying to play the demo and just being confused the whole way.
Of course, there’s also Westwood’s Blade Runner, fantastic game.
But the king of PKD video games is Total Recall on the NES, obviously.

Genesis are still cheap, easy to find, care for and find games for.
Saturn are expensive for North American ones, and now even the Japanese ones are more than 100$ on ebay (they used to be like 50$ less than 5 years ago). The games are all getting way overpriced, even for very common one.
Dreamcast is getting expensive, but I think with some luck it might still be possible to find them around 100$. -

My C64 is decently accessorized, with a real 1541 drive, SD2IEC, Final Cartridge III and a User Port wifi modem, but I still find myself regularly lusting for a Ultimate II cart. It's got a much more compatible SD card interface (the SD2IEC is fine to transfer images to real floppies, but so many games don't load from it), a REU replacement (a usable programming setup direct on a C64 almost requires this, because you need extra memory to hold the assembler, else you have assemble to disk each and every time), a real time clock and EasyFlash capabilities (to load cartridge games).
