now I regret not having ripped to flac or somesuch. if I had, I could reencode to other formats without quality loss.

Alexandre Olivavoting for the lesser evil is not enough to achieve a better outcome. one must organize to have better choices next time. but voting for the lesser evil may very well be enough to avoid the worse evil for the time being, if those are the only choices available today. so choose the least bad this time (this is important), but (this is even more important) don't forget to build better choices for next time. democracy isn't supposed to end at elections. the price of freedom is eternal vigilance, and the price of democracy is eternal participation and organizing.

Alexandre Olivamake it so people don't need to rely on an abusive enshittifier to maintain their web sites. make the next user-centered web so that web (or maybe gemini) sites can be published from users' own devices, whether through Tor onion services, Freenet or IPFS, that next-gen browsers ought to be able to access transparently, and that get automatically replicated across other user's devices, and/or to select friend's devices, in peer-to-peer fashion. make it so that social networks work in a similar fashion, so that users can run their own instances out of their own devices, under their own control, again without having to rely on third parties to run "servers" for them, and instead relying on solid peer-to-peer replication tech to provide stable storage for such distributed apps to build upon
see how GNU Jami runs with a single account replicated across multiple devices for a great example of how this can work, and picture that being extended/used to publish web sites, host social media nodes, publish software, ... there's a slightly outdated view thereof drafted up at https://www.fsfla.org/blogs/lxo/draft/decent-computing

Alexandre Olivainteresting... freeways in Brazil are often non-gratis because they're privatized and then toll booths become profit centers, justified as funding the maintenance. it appears to make sense to have the people who most use the road to fund its maintenance, but the same argument could apply to public transportation. but somehow the latter makes it clearer how little sense that makes, and how much sense it makes to consider both as public infrastructure maintained with progressive/redistributive taxing, rather than burdening those who happen to have to rely more often on public infrastructure just because they lack the privilege it would take to be able to do otherwise
sadly, that website your recommend doesn't pass even the most fundamental accessibility requirement (that's a building block for most other accessibility features): graceful degradation when javascript is not available.
you can still place the software at your service to whatever ends you wish, inasmuchas those wishes are within your own freedom, rather than about overpowering others
I acknowledge that some wish to conflate freedom and power, and to gain power over others. the GPL is not conducive of this kind of abusive relationship.
