I'm trying to nail down the one thing that all programming languages have in common, whether it be 80x86 assembly or Lisp. Yes, they can all compute and perform I/O, but they all have a fundamental trait that I can only describe as computerishness. A certain way of viewing the world that transcends low/high functional/procedural and says more about how the brains of computer geeks work than what particular platform or language you're using.

Still can't shake the feeling that, because I'm not bit-banging registers in assembly code, I'm not really programming. There's this huge gulf between that and JavaScript/HTML5 development, and yet, both of those worlds fit snugly inside my brain.

It's only when you've seen Z80, 6502, 68000 and ARM that you can grasp how truly weird 8086 really was.

I used to have an entire hemisphere of my brain dedicated to IBM BIOS interrupts, x86 registers and real-mode segmented memory access.

@Katharsisdrill @harald Ah! Det ser så lite og uskyldig ut at jeg trodde det var snakk om en artikkel, et pronomen eller annet bindeledd i setningen. Men nu er jeg sgu blivet klogere! 😄

For some reason, "homosexual" sounds about 1024 times worse than just "gay", even though it's supposed to be the more formal word.

Someone who's gay should make a joke about the word "gaycation" that I just thought of. >_>

@natevw How do they get a 90° phase shift, I wonder? Double the clock, invert that, and half it again, perhaps?

@natevw You're right about the I/Q of course. You need orthogonal complex axes to get the phasor angle.

@natevw If I take a liking to this, I'll probably buy one of the more advanced SDRs. At some point, I want to get a ham license. Also, sniff and spoof 2.4 GHz devices. I've got several consumer wireless devices with proprietary protocols that I want to log telemetry from, or control from my computer.

Gotta love it when churchgoers buy into the gospel of Jesus, or Labour Party members buy into the gospel of socialism, but neither of them want to get close to, talk to, interact with or touch junkies, beggars or gypsies. Be honest with yourselves, and don't be all talk and no action.

The Labour Party of Norway has trouble reconciling the wishes of its middle class members with its history of wanting to help the poor. Latest example: The party has a real-estate firm that owns their HQ building and attached shopfront properties, and they added a policy to refuse gypsies access to toilets or a glass of water. The middle class Norwegians who work in those shops tend to avoid interacting with gypsies, junkies and beggars. Not even Labour people love the poor.

If you put together a game dev team of Scandinavians where the Swedes + Finns did the coding, the Danes did the story/visuals, and the Norwegians, uh... paid for it? That's my problem with Norway. We're not best at the things that I care about. We kind of suck, basically.
