exFAT being patent-encumbered always struck me as ridiculous, considering it's essentially an extension of FAT32 and would otherwise be a perfectly valid filesystem for basic, portable mass storage. (Sorry, UDF.) This technically doesn't change that, but it's still a marked improvement that I'm surprised by.
