Running your own instance mostly takes patience. There is also the less burdensome moderation that comes with smaller instances.

@ink_slinger supply has been exceeding demand for venues too. Arenas are booked solid and games happen at all sorts of weird times, so not only is it expensive, if more than one kid plays competitively there are schedule conflicts etc. Meaning single parental and families without flexible work schedules have trouble making it to games.

@renatolond @Siphonay this exact thing happens up to a dozen times a week...still manageable but annoying.

Always uses a string of random characters as a user name. Almost always email addresses of the big public web mail services (Yahoo, hotmail, gmail, outlook). Almost none of them go through with email verification.

Looks like they are using an old list of compromised accounts. Maybe auto delete all accounts that do not verify within 'x' hours to cut back on the garbage sign-ups.

@rhys seems times have changed. I remember when making fun of a politicians' appearance during a campaign actually offended voters. In Canada, the governing PC party ran an ad mocking the Liberal leader's facial palsy. The voter backlash helped turn a mere defeat into the total destruction of the PCs.
