There is actually a thing that could make the channel bridge thing more sensible... an announcement that the UK intends to join the Schengen area. (So the bridge would actually provide a significant advantage and not just an endless wait in a queue.)

Now, I don't have a comment on the Boris' bridge over the channel (if I had, it'd probably be it's stupid, but I don't feel like thinking about it now), but imagine all the catastrophic movies you could make with that.
