About weakly-taken positions, I think that's good for the same reason, to sit down for a discussion and say "Well, I honestly don't really know!" Because at least you're clear about that, too.

At least you don't end up in the paradoxical state of strongly defending a weak opinion, that way, when you say honestly that you don't feel strongly or know for certain.

@shmibs Sure. And I think the willingness to have the discussion is important.

I definitely don't think Žižek would argue that you should just steamroll someone's contribution to a discussion with rhetorical devices just because your feeling is that you disagree with them. Just that, when you come to the issue, you should be especially clear about what you presuppose, and where you are starting from.

@shmibs Eh, it's kind to hedge. But it's not always intellectually honest. If you're feeling or leaning a certain way in a relevant discussion, you should probably say so.

Sheltering your ideas from criticism doesn't help them to grow.

@shmibs I think what he's talking about is in the context of debate or discussion, though, rather than decision-making or praxis. You're not going to receive full-strength criticism of your ideas unless you voice them.
