@fedilab That's really sad 😥 Fedilab is the best Mastodon/Friendica client I ever used. I really love your quick response to feature requests & bug reports. The fediverse has developed some really bad attitude where people prefer to fight their ally's because of disagreement on details or individual features instead of building something great together. I hope this attitude will change before everything is destroyed and that we can welcome you back soon!
@juliobiason you can use the search on the top to search for users, e.g. try to search for "@bjoern @mastodon.social" (without the space) and you should find me.
@wromey Today we have libraries hundreds or thousand years old. Some of the oldest books are more then 2.000 years old. Do you think any of today's ebooks will still exist in 2.000 years? I doubt it, even without DRM this is a tough challenge. Many DRM-broken books will probably disappear within less then 100 years.
When I go to my parents home I see hundreds of books in their shelves and I can discover many interesting topics. Without this opportunity I would never have read many interesting books. Did you already realised that the next generation will no longer have the same possibilities? These days most parents only "buy" eBook which can disappear at any time? What does this mean for our children and our cultural heritage? https://www.wired.com/story/microsoft-ebook-apocalypse-drm/#books#children#education#culturalHeritage
@wnymathguy I expect that it is the same. If google decides at some point in time that they don't want to continue the ebook business they will shutdown their servers and all DRM limited books will be gone.
@sergiusens I like to buy books from bookzilla.de for example, they donate 5% of the price you pay to FSFE. If I don't find the book at bookzilla I try beam-shop.de which sells DRM-free books only.
@NeoTheThird really nice talk, thanks for sharing! Personally I'm looking pretty much forward to the Librem5, it seems like they will be able to bring all important parts together.
