    1. LSQ Volunteer Editor Application
      from Google Docs
ABOUT LSQ Luna Station Quarterly is a grassroots, independent magazine with an international readership, dedicated to publishing great genre fiction (sci-fi/fantasy, all that weird stuff that's fun to read, etc.) by emerging women-identified writers. We also have a blog that publishes essays, informative articles, book reviews and author interviews. We're currently in our 9th year of publication! We support a positive, affirming atmosphere and encourage writers who are just starting out. We publish stories we love, no matter the author's level of experience. POSITION DESCRIPTION Our volunteer Editors read through the submitted stories, commenting on each one they read and voting for the ones they consider the best for that issue. Once stories are chosen, everything is proofread before going off to production. While a simple job description, this is the core of what makes LSQ run, its individual issues and the stories within are the foundation upon which the whole of LSQ is built. REQUIREMENTS β€’ Great proofreading skills β€’ Solid organizational skills β€’ Maturity β€’ 3-5 hours a week of free time β€’ A love for short stories and genre fiction β€’ The ability to constructively comment on what is read The above are a must, but otherwise no experience is necessary. First time editors welcome. All positions are volunteer. We seek diverse applicants. Please contact us with any questions you may have. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: DECEMBER 17TH Start date: ASAP Interested? Fill out the form!

The start is so perfectly cyberpunk and iconic.

so, my dad is a mechanical engineer and i've been thinking about doing some kind of formal conversation with him to see what software engineers and mechanical engineers have in common. best practices, approaches to technology, tackling new projects, that kind of thing. i'm gathering questions and pinging my networks for some ideas.

if you could sit down with an engineer, what would you ask?

    retoots encouraged!

i also wouldn't mind moving away from calling the things we're building "apps".

they're tools built on software. they need to be solid and dependable, like a hammer or screwdriver.

they're not "sexy". they don't "disrupt" things. they are tools people use to accomplish a task.

heh. i'm a little opinionated on this. :D

geez this field is a mess. tutorials 6 months old are out of date. i'm dependent on stack overflow for answers to everything.

i wouldn't want to scare anyone away, but i would be tempted to give dire warnings to folks looking to get into web dev.

there is a shit ton of bs involved that has nothing to do with building apps or changing tech culture. our tools are busted & confusing as fuck.

it's only because i've been at this so long that i can calmly navigate this quagmire.

could use feedback from the masto community.

i run a lit journal & thinking about making an acct for it here but i'm not sure if it would be welcome or not.

our social presence is currently quotes by women, announcements about blog posts, updates on publishing deadlines, calls for submissions, a bit of "hey join our patreon", and a few other bits of internal announcement stuff.

we don't run ads so social is how we get readers/fund stuff.

wondering if a fancy kind of aggregator for blog posts could be a viable alternative to Medium.

i know wordpress.com sort of does this. could be a great use of RSS?

i'm breaking down my conditioning that gaining reach & followers is the be all end all & thinking about how organic discovery has been lost.

Mastodon is rewiring me to think smaller again, which is lovely & good. what would a federated blogging software look like?

hmm. okay one thing birbsite has that masto doesn't right now is lists. there are a lot of folks i'd like to casually follow, but not necessarily have EVERYONE in my timeline.

could work even in a limited capacity of having "favorite" follows and being able to pin that column and then yeah, follow EVERYONE in my timeline.

since it seems to be of use today more than usual, i'll hand out two links for stuff i work on:

i did some stuff for https://www.if-me.org/ for Hacktoberfest and they're a great #mentalhealth project with an awesome community.

i also run http://selfcare.tech which has loads of excellent resources for #selfcare.
