@MarcatoMarc Crucially, I don't think these are actually opposite ends of a spectrum; rather, they're orthogonal.
Software that has neither explicit documentation nor leverages implicit conventions is just... unusable.
Explicit but not implicit is Vim: as you say, it requires investment.
Implicit but not explicit is all the garbage webapps we see that just keep users guessing.
Explicit /and/ implicit means easy to pick up but also easy to find help.
Explicit is necessary. Implicit is just a nice bonus.

@tindall Waaaaay back in the day, I really appreciated software like Turbo Pascal 6 or Corel Draw 3 where hitting F1 anywhere brought up context-sensitive help. *ANYWHERE*, and it took you to the help page for *exactly* the place in the program you were in at that time.
There was even small tutorials for little workflows in the contextual help. It was wonderful.

After 10 months (holy crap!), elementary Files now supports the same Cloud Providers API as @gnome@twitter.com Files. This means native support for online storage locations like @Nextclouders@twitter.com using an Open, cross-desktop API!

"Smart ovens have been turning on overnight and preheating to 400 degrees": https://www.theverge.com/2019/8/14/20802774/june-smart-oven-remote-preheat-update-user-error
Note the manufacturer's response: must be user error.
Bzzzzt.
A high-heat appliance turning on unattended is a big safety problem: fires start that way. If your user interface is such that multiple users are having that happen, it isn't the user that's at fault, it's your shitty user interface.
