It is super elegant, and more importantly written in OCaml, so in theory a much reduced attack-surface than anything else (brrr libpurple...)

Decentralization of services and communications makes sense technologically (in terms of infrastructure and resilience), socially (in terms of what we learn and share, how we organize and who we trust) and politically (in terms of who holds power and inevitably ends up abusing it).
I think it is only from an economic perspective, where it may seem on the short-term cheaper (because easier), that centralization *would* make sense. (if it did...)
