@eribloodlust It's a 1973 science fiction book, and, like, a significant part of the plot [I don't remember how much spoilers this is] is yams being ancient alien-astronaut-human-anscestors HRT to a non-reproducing non-gendered hyper-intelligent variation of the species.
It was my first exposure to any concept approximating HRT, and I REALLY wonder if Niven, like, KNEW...
