@JordiGH yeah, it seems like the sort of thing that's probably a huge mess to deal with too, due to all the different GUI layers for different platforms and so on

@JordiGH At the moment I have it on a second monitor, which works reasonably well, but it'd be nice to have it persistently on the main screen. With a cursory search found a small number of people who seemed to think it would be useful: https://www.reddit.com/r/octave/comments/3nv9xg/dock_images_to_gui/ http://octave.1599824.n4.nabble.com/Figure-docked-td4682767.html

The Matlab behavior seems to have a parameter that isn't currently implemented in Octave: https://blogs.mathworks.com/pick/2005/11/15/default-docked-figures/

(at least according to the section at the bottom of https://octave.org/doc/v4.2.2/Figure-Properties.html )

      Default Docked Figures
from File Exchange Pick of the Week
I just wanted to pass along a small tip that you might find useful. If you've become as big of a fan of docked figures as I have, you might be looking for a way to have figures docked by default when they are created. This is easy to do (but not obvious) by modifying default figure properties.

@JordiGH just been trying it out, doing some FIR filter design. really impressed so far tbh, though it'd be good if the pop-out 'figure' plot window was dockable!!
