We had a lovely time # hiking the "Cup and Saucer" trail today. 9.3km in just over 3 hours, with lots of scenic views on the way (especially on the cliff side of the trails). Got a little lost and had a lot of fun with @ jodi ! https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/f41e11138f89f68e2f2da46bdb950ab0d44a865e2695526f46072a1f989360ab/view

Very excited for the M.Sc. thesis defense today of R. Hill. If successful (of this I have no doubt), he will join me as a Ph.D. Student at # QueensUniversity working on the # PICO bubble chamber # DarkMatter # experiment . We’ll be operating and analyzing PICO-40L (40l of freon, about 70kg of target) this year and next, and constructing PICO-500 (500kg of target) next year. It is an exciting time in the hunt for dark matter!

So happy to be on vacation this week. Leaving for Manitoulin Island later today. Looking forward to some peace and quiet and fewer interruptions.

From evan@cosocial.ca on Mastodon: # ActivityPub is the default social networking protocol because we took the time to standardise it at the W3C. You don't have to be part of the W3C to build on top of ActivityPub. You can make extensions and new applications without ever dealing with a formalised standards organisation. But the benefit of having the W3C behind us is crystal clear. There have been dozens of distributed social networks, and none has gotten as much traction as AP and AS2.

From StellaLunaObs@mastodon.online on Mastodon: The first person to touch the OSIRIS-REx sample return capsule since 2016 checks it for safety and applies protective covers. She prepared it for a quick helicopter ride to a mobile clean room where it will be secured, nitrogen-purged, and shipped off to the Johnson Space Center for sample analysis.
