Stephen SekulaFrom Vicky_Bowskill@ecoevo.social on Mastodon: Finally worked out how to answer that perennial question that plagues every PhD pioneer… "So, how's your PhD going…?" It can be such a hard question to answer when your on this mammoth rollercoaster of a ride and often gets a shrug and "It's going...". For me it's looked a bit like this - but I'm nearly there! T-minus 6-months...ish...I hope... # phdlife # phdchat # SciArt # SciComm
Yeah! But, Clonezilla is conservative ... and this disk had physical damage. Wound up having to clone the partitions by hand with ddrescue, but all went well and the system is back up!

Stephen Sekula“ # StarWars : # Ashoka Episode 5 Is Getting a Limited Theatrical Release” WHUUUUUUUT!?!? I just learned about this from one of my nephews. We just finished an hour-long phone nerd-out over the first 4 episodes, and he dropped this little factoid on my plate. https://www. ign.com/articles/star-wars-ahs oka-episode-5-limited-theatrical-release I want to go to there. But will it be in # Sudbury ?!?!

Stephen SekulaI have no memory of meeting Dr. Hitchon during my time at UW-Madison (98-04), but it was a big department with many compartments in the faculty. This fact about part of his life is weird and fascinating. Stephen SekulaFrom fraser@m.universetoday.com on Mastodon: Astronomers Observe Blobs of Dark Matter Down to a Scale of 30,000 Light-Years Across Although dark matter appears to dominate the mass of the Universe, astronomers still don't know what it is and haven't been able to study it in the lab. But its impact on the Universe can be mapped, thanks to gravitational lensing, where the mass of dark matter distorts the path taken by light that passes through it. A new team of researchers has mapped out regions of dark matter with unprecedented detail, down to a scale of 30,000 light-years. These fluctuations will allow astronomers to constrain its causes better. # darkmatter https://www. nao.ac.jp/en/news/science/2023 /20230907-alma.html
