Tongues are disgusting. Stand in front of the mirror and check yours out. See the wildly different shapes you can make it assume. It's just… Ugh! It's not right. Also there are teeth; little chunks of calcified matter embedded in soft flesh around the jaw. The digestive tract starts off horrifying and only gets worse as you progress. So much for the theory of a benevolent creator. (I'm not stoned, I was born like this.)

    1. Vegetable-Burger Cups
By iamsurly from Vintage Recipe Cards

      1 beaten egg
      1/4 cup milk
1/3 cup coarsely crushed saltine crackers (9 crackers)
      1/2 of a 1 1/2-ounce envelope (2 tablespoons) sloppy joe seasoning mix
      1 pound ground beef
      ■ ■ ■

2 medium carrots, thinly sliced (1 cup)
1 cup fresh or frozen peas
      3/4 cup water
      1/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon instant beef bouillon granules
      Dash pepper
      1/4 cup cold water
      1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 cup shredded American cheese (2 ounces)

In a bowl mix egg, milk, cracker crumbs and seasoning mix. Add beef; mix well. On 4 squares of waxed paper pat meat into four 5-inch rounds. Shape each over an inverted 6-ounce custard cup; discard paper. Place inverted cups in a 12×71/2×2-inch non-metal baking dish. Cover; set aside. In a 1 quart non-metal casserole combine carrots, peas, the 3/4 cup water, onion, bouillon granules, and pepper. Cook, covered with waxed paper, in countertop microwave oven on high power about 10 minutes or till vegetables are tender; stir once. Stir the 1/4 cup cold water into flour; stir into vegetables. Micro-cook, uncovered about 1 minute or till thickened and bubbly. Stir in cheese till melted. Cover; set aside.

Micro-cook meat cups, covered, 3 minutes; give dish a half turn. Micro-cook, covered about 2 minutes more or till meat is almost done. Lift meat cups from custard cups; place on serving platter. Fill with vegetable sauce. Micro-cook uncovered, 1 to 2 minutes more or till sauce is hot. If desired, garnish with raw onion rings and parsley sprigs. Makes 4 servings.

I am now off the welfare rolls. Now my immediate worry is getting enough #work in the coming months. Living without the duress of "compliance" is worth the risk: dignity is _so_ underrated.

@tregeagle Yeah, it's the syncing that's the killer. I've been using #OpenShot, which has a UI that almost makes sense and doesn't crash very often, but seems to assume that what you're editing is your own uncompressed footage. Probably time for another trawl though the alternatives that sort-of-work. https://alternativeto.net/software/openshot/?license=opensource&platform=linux

@tregeagle Blimey. Those are some hills. I got my brother-in-law's old bike out of the garage this morning with the intention of riding round and round in circles at sea level for a while. Turns out I don't own a bike pump (the bloke who stole my bike stole the pump as well; left my helmet though - the criminal classes lack my mighty cranial volume). My cycling tour of #Sawtell and environs between 16th Ave and May St has been postponed till I can get to the shops.

@andyc A sad day for euphemisms. "Kleenex Mansize" is far preferable to "you expect alarming amounts of discharge from one orifice or another", just as "Family Size" packs of breakfast cereal are preferable to "you live alone, subsisting almost entirely on breakfast cereal".

@andyc Last stable #GNUSocial release being four years ago is not a good sign, granted. However I've no experience with #Ruby, unlike @tregeagle, who still has nightmares about it.

#DrWho 2018 ep. 2 was a bit meh. Never doubted Whittaker's ability to fit the part perfectly, but the story was decidedly lightweight, and carried all the hallmarks of being filler in yet another series-long story arc. These didn't work on the couple of occasions they were attempted in classic Who and are a tiresome trope in new Who. Chibnall, who as a fan suffered through the trial of series 23 on initial broadcast, should know better. In the 45+ minute format, two-parters are with rare exception the minimum required to support a rewarding plot, and it's far more reasonable to expect a casual audience to watch two consecutive episodes than twelve.

#FFS, I just want to swap out the existing audio track for a higher quality one. I don't want to lossily resample or recompress the video because it's already s**t. I don't care about losing a bit of quality on the replaced audio. So keep the video as it is, and do as you must with the audio. How is that so hard? #OpenShot
