@ben This really shouldnโt surprise me (Jeff Atwood being a huge ass). When LowTax talked to him about moving somethingawful to discourse years ago he came away saying basically Jeff had ignored and dismissed everything he suggested. If youโre too big an asshole for LowTax that is saying something.
Inedo was recently trying to figure out what forum software to use. Marketing settled on Discourse based on what other similar companies are using. Then I pointed out to my boss that the Discopocalypse thread is still running.
I copied a screenshot of Jeff Atwood being an asshole to the internal chat program. My boss recognized that that matched his experience with Jeff 3 years earlier but wondered if Jeff had improved since then.
And then we found out that the post was from 3 days ago.
Needless to say, Inedo didn't even get to the prototype stage for the Discourse forum.
Harsh fluorescent lighting casts a bluish haze. White tile is chipped, and lots of graffiti with phone numbers and Mastodon handles. Music is quieter: oontz oontz oontz.
Jack guides Frank into a stall and closes the door behind them.
JACK (pulls out Rice Krispies Treat) Oh, man, I can't wait.
FRANK (mouth agape) I...I.... Fuck it. (puts on shades. Then, louder) I'M IN.
The music is blaring OONTZ OONTZ OONTZ. Hundreds of people are dancing and jumping amidst colourful, flashing LED and laser lights. A DJ spins tunes in the corner, hiding in his hoodie.
JACK: Hey cutie, wanna do poppers in the bathroom?
@hirojin Good question, not sure. Whatever Debian would have I guess? It's the white outline + the inside of it being nearly undiscernable at small point sizes / HiDPI.
I finished my stint as a Mozilla Fellow and now I'm relaunching my Patreon with a focus on, well, fixing social media.
This means I'm going to continue my concerted work trying to make the fediverse a better place, in the form of best practice guides for running instances, external advocacy, and technical tutorials and training so that more people can contribute software to the fediverse at large.
You can read a partial summary of my work so far at my new Patreon page!
