Fun fact: while you may only have heard of Mastodon recently, it's been around for a while! @Gargron registered the domain 'mastodon.social' in March 2016, and hundreds of people have contributed to its development since then.

Let's take a moment to say thank you to the thousands of people who have contributed to Mastodon's development and community over the last two and a half years! We wouldn't be where we are without you!

Please be mindful of the fact that you are responsible for the content posted to your Mastodon account, even if you're using a tool to cross-post it from elsewhere. Also, in case it needs to be said, if you set up a tool to cross-post between your Twitter account and your mastodon.social account, you're responsible for the content of those posts, regardless of where they originated. If you're cross-posting, consider the rules of BOTH sites.

NEW USERS PAY ATTENTION!

We're getting a lot of reports about new users who don't seem to have read the rules at https://mastodon.social/about/more . These are not idle guidelines; they're the conditions for being welcome on mastodon.social (which is one of many instances in the Mastodon federation). If you can't follow them, even when you're posting unlisted toots, please find another instance.

Remember: one of us reads every report, and we will suspend users for repeated violations of the rules.

Anti-trans rhetoric is unconditionally unwelcome on Mastodon.social.
