The proprietary driver is full of glitches, they do not follow the standards to make wayland work well, they do not follow the standards for compatibility in general. They make it extremely difficult for the opensource community so that driver performs worse then my on board graphics and in general its just a pain to use.

Feel free to include others like Broadcom

How do you use the nvidia gpu on optimus without installing the propriatary drivers? Bumblebee complains about drm and i cant find an alternative.

@angristan It was very fun to do actually, because i was outsmarting my colleagues and put my malware behavioral analysis skills to good use for once :P

@angristan When the install server crashed i was one of the ones who was rebuilding the packages as i liked packaging silent installers for Windows. It took me 1,5 days to reverse engineer all the commands it was supposed to do and rig it together in a way the software accepted it (One of the things it did not install silent was a local instance of SQL Server, yes for the client).

My colleagues where surpriced, they told me they took 3 days originally. But they forgot to mention they gave up.

@angristan I just watched the presentation of the package managers bad practises.

I once had to build an automated install package for a program, it required installing its dependencies which they provided trough a seperate installer which had a silent switch. That installer in turn would invoke all the other installers from the dependencies non silent or refused to start them at all and if you installed the dependencies manually it would not count them as present.

I always wished for a StarGate reboot, but i should have been careful what i wished for because i really do not want it to come out in 2018 with all the current trends in series and movies. If this is a cheap political ripoff that as a result condemns the franchise into being unprofitable and cancelled forever i will be really sad. I already had considered it dead before, but i really want it to survive and do well since i had so much fun with SG1 and Atlantis.

Spend the evening experimenting with AppImage building, i got myself an AppImage that plays any media to my liking and it has the options in the player that i need.

The AppImage isn't entirely to my liking though as its compatibility is quite low, it only runs well on modern ubuntu based systems so i might spend some effort on increasing compatibility by using older packages for the dependencies and adding a couple extra libs that come by default in Ubuntu.

When packing you notice stuff you normally never notice as a user and are surpriced Windows never thought off. Linux uses SVG files for icons, that means that no matter you insane DPI the icon looks good and you only need one of them.
