I'll really never get people recoiling from sex robots or looking down on virtual sex sims, personally. It seems like the logical terminus of human desire. Some people will want real companionship, human contact, or perhaps feel a duty to reproduce. Those people will continue to seek out real partners and have children.  But among people who only want to get laid and have an orgasm, not only is technologically assisted sex better for them, it's better for everybody else too.

The sex doll user probably doesn't want to have to deal with the realities of a human relationship, and would rather not deal with the social and financial costs of one. Some, even many, might be willing to lie or mislead others just to gain access to sex. With technologically simulated sex, they get their orgasm and other people don't have to worry about people like them being in the dating pool. It's win-win.
