@gled@maloki How so? To me it entirely defeats the purpose of your widely federated instance. I like to have political discussions on a broad spectrum, i am clearly not a nazi and i'd like the freedom to be able to interact with any instance even if they are hidden from the global list or hidden by default. Why be against user choice?
@eloisa Thats not cool though, this was supposed to be a widely federated one. Don't want it on your timelines? I am fine with that, but i want to be able to follow people from the entire fediverse in mine. Mastodon.host should stick to its principle of federating with as much as possible. Gab's own instance actually has "Hidden Domains" as a feature which sounds like a great solution for this. Hide it by default if you desire, but please give users choice.
@maloki Gab users are not in it for the kill though. My purpose here is to show the others aren't the radical enemies they are depicted as. While also trying to figure out why the interaction with the Gab instance is so incredibly broken. I want to follow people from both Mastodon and Gab instances and i am having a lot of trouble with that.
@maloki Not everyone on the right is a Nazi and Gab is definately not a Nazi platform. Its an everyone platform. I find it a very needed welcome change because now we finally have a politically neutral fediverse. There are far left instances on Mastodon with strict rules and policies, and now the biggest right wing Twitter alternative is part of it to. That means that we truly have become a Twitter alternative where neutral debates can happen and both sides can interact. Don't fear that, embrace it, interact and deradicalize people. Its going to get a better world because of it because now its going to be less tribalistic. Unless everyone now starts censoring the Gab instance in which case ill probably just migrate there as my main instance.
Welcome to the fediverse gab! Now i can finally follow right wing creators on mastodon. The fact mastodon is left wing and gab tends to be right wing that means the fediverse is now properly centralized! Absolutely fantastic. As long as this instance allows me to speak and doesn't filter gab ill gladly stay. Otherwise ill go to gab.
That moment when your watching @lunduke 's older Linux Sucks presentations with one laptop where the wifi stops working from time to time and a gaming PC with audio issues. GG Linux, GG. But at least its now to a degree i can actually use it for some tasks and enjoy linux in my daily use.
Just noticed the current version of Brave allows you to have extentions barred from accessing your web content until you click on them. That is perfect for extentions i don't always need but want access to every single webpage! Now i can use spell checkers and social media addons without any worry they are tracking me.
@machi I used to be on mstdn.io which seemed to allow it just fine but there policy updates changed so i got a bit weary. Mastodon.host is my home for now but they bricked their rules so i have no idea what the rules actually are on this one.
@machi The reason i like Mastodon over Gab is because it has the potential to be both. The main instance can censor all they like but because it is an open decentral technology it is up to the people to police their own instances according to their own needs. So a second twitter can never happen as you can simply go to a different instance with better moderation or start your own.
Insane that mastodon.social banned someone over promoting a video that was showcasing the dissenter browser. I like dissenter but not its browser, but because that is a free speech platform apparently the user got banned for being "Extremely nationalist".
I am a european nationalist who thinks it is a good idea to have a nation with a unified main culture that allows for diverse sub-cultures and i think dissenter is a good idea. I suppose that means i fall under that category as well.
Luckily i was a little more clever in picking my instances, at least if mastodon.host does not ban me for this post :P
@didnt1able@pea Been using proton for half a year now. They really need to add a calendar and you would need to be happy with webmail but if you can life with those compromises its a great service.
Its been a long time since i last tried this instance i originally abandoned because of the crypto experiments. But it seems like they have gone the right way so who knows, i do like being able to post really long arguments so it doesn't loose its nuances.
To me mastodon in general is really underappreciated, so many people on Twitter talk politics getting censored, polls meddled with yet it has the politicians and corporations on it. Gab is pro free speech but seems to be mostly on the right, Mastodon seems to be mostly on the left. It would be nice if more right wingers and politicians joined as well so it becomes the new discussion ground. Because this way if admins ever get ban happy we can just make an instance that allows for open and free debates again.
And that to me is the true strength of mastodon. Its up to the instance on how to moderate it. Want a far right instance with exclusively far right people? You can do that. Want a far left instance with exclusively far left opinions? Seems to already exist in a few places. Want a neutral instance where you can provide an argument and meet people from both sides of the spectrum? Seems to be this one along with mstdn.io .
I hope Styxhexenhammer will eventually promote this platform, he is so big on alt-tech stuff yet seems to have completely missed this platform in favor of Gab. But gab is not alt-tech, this is.
